State Convention: GK Jim was in attendance on April 22nd and received the Rising Star Award.  A banner for our council was created however it has use in Lockport so it’s being corrected.

Meal Prior to Meetings: We’d like to discuss the idea of the council raising funds for meals or making it less expensive for everyone to pay.

Thank you to Brs. Paul & Stan for stepping up and volunteering to cut the grass for the Parish.

Officers Meetings: Moving forward we’d like to hold Officers Meetings at 7pm, this will help keep with continuity with the General Meetings; we’ll run this by the rest of the Officers.

Worthy Grand Knight remindsof the importance of attending both meetings barring work, family commitments and unexpected emergencies.

Upcoming Elections: Br. Julian stepped up to be nominated as Recording Secretary. Br. Nick is happy to remain Advocate, however he’ll be only to make one meeting a month and he’s open to someone taking over as well.  All other officers present will keep their positions for the slate.

Deputy Grand Knight’s Report:excused but thinking about changing up the menu post Lent to beef or sausage.

Chancellor’sReport:Br. Michael will be hosting 5 Carmelite Nuns (one being is daughter) from the Sisters of St. Joseph as they make their travels to and from Lourdes on September 2nd& 11th.  If it works out with their departure, they’d like to attend Mass on September 3rd

Br. Michael was in active recruitment with Mark Lotz;however,he was notified at lunch today that Mark had passed away.

Recorder’s Report:Nothing to report.

Financial Secretary’s Report:

  • Presently we have 32 members.
  • 8 Insurance members and 24 Associate (non-insurance) members.
  • 30 dues paying members and 2 Honorary Life (HL) members.
  • 27 members have fully paid their 2023 dues.
  • 3 members have outstanding balances remaining for their 2023 dues.
  • Our HL members should be receiving permanent membership cards from Supreme which have yet to come in.
  • As of May 2nd, current invoices that can be retrieved are zero and have been dated May 1st, and still no news from the State.
  • Since out last meeting our council collected $150 dollars in dues payments. GK collected $30 and will plan to pass it along to Randy.
  • there are no expenses to submit.
  • The GAF pouch was not passed around at this evening’s meeting.

Treasurer’s Report:Since our last meeting (04/18) we have received $250 in income from dues, donations, and the fundraiser. All has been deposited except the quarters which will used for the next fundraiser and have marked as “undeposited funds.” We have no expenses, and as of right now we have $1, 270 dollars in savings and checking.

Lecturer’s Report:We were floating the idea to have another Movie Matinee after the Corpus Christi procession on Sunday June 11th.  However, that afternoon the first communicants have traditionally had a potluck in the gym.

So instead of doing a Movie Matinee, perhaps we can partner with Denise and host an event in celebration of the communicants, maybe hotdogs or brunch. This year there are nine communicants.

Freewill donation might not benefit us that well.  It was discussed that we could use tickets, provide tickets to Denise for the communicants and their families and everyone can purchase a ticket.

Hosting this event for the communicants offers great exposure for the council and an opportunity for revenue. AThe event has the potential to reach over one-hundred people. Also, it could be a nice partnership between the Religious Education program and the Knights, they set up the gym and we can provide the food (hotdogs, chips &water, or popcorn).

We’ll take the idea up at the general meeting and put it up for vote and will have a cost breakdown by then.

Movie Matinee can be shifted perhaps the week before or two weeks following.

In reference to Corpus Christi: How many armbands with patches do we need? The patches could run about $3.50 each. The consensus is to put a motion for 20 armbands to be made with an option to be purchased by members.

Advocate’s Report: St. Paul Street Evangelization, teaching Catholics how to practically share our Catholic faith in an authentic, non-confrontational, and joyful way.Basic Evangelization Training held at St. Joseph’s on Saturday, May 13th 9am – 3pm, cost is $15 and can be registered for at stpaulse.com/joliet-bet.

If anyone is available to assist with setup let Nick know, nick.labanca@yahoo.com

Warden’s Report:Nothing to report.

Trustees Report:Nothing to report.

Program Reports:

Committee’s: Website – Br. Andrew will check with Nick regarding how to submit his website invoice for reimbursement approval.  He worked up a dummy site to show but the router was acting up and doesn’t have anything to show this evening.  Br. Andrew will contact Br. Mike Enos regarding the set up if his council’s website as it’s one that we’d like to emulate.

Another point made was to set up an address for the council to help with SEO optimization on google.  This doesn’t have to be the same as our council mailing address which is the rectory.

Newsletter: Br. Randall would like to send out a quarterly newsletter to membership and for it go out by the end of the month for (June, July & Aug).

Present and Past Newsletters can be posted on the website.

Fundraising: Worthy New Council Dev. Mike Enos suggested an idea to GK for a fundraiser.  Damien – A One-Man Play performed by Wayne Messmer https://waynemessmer.com/services/actor/damien-a-one-man-play/

There is a cost for the performer which is $2,500.  The occupancy for the church gym is probably approximately 160. We’d have to get 125 people just to cover the performers fee and everything else would go to the council.  Apparently, there hasn’t been one of these events in our area and there would be a possibly of getting patrons from other local parishes.

We’d also would need to find a venue, if the performance was to be held in the church there would be logistics to figure out.  Br. Jim will run this idea by Father and get more details from Br. Mike.

There will be performance coming up on June 3rdDAMIEN – THE LEPER PRIEST OF MOLOKAI AT ST FRANCIS OF ASSISI CHURCH, BOLINGBROOK, IL.

Life:No news on SB 1909, there hasn’t been a date set for a vote yet.

Proposed Pro-Life Activities for the council:

  • The 6th Annual National Pro-Life Bridges Day in cities coast to coast.  Teams of 5 pro-lifers will be stationed on highway overpasses with banners reading “Abortion Takes a Human Life” on Friday, July 21st& Saturday, July 22nd. $125 for purchase of the event kit.
  • America Needs Fatima – Rosary Rally on May 13th the 106th Anniversary Mary’s first apparition to the three children in Fatima. However, this is the same day as the St. Paul Street Evangelization Basic Training. Erik has an America Needs Fatima banner, it’s possible we could do our own Rally in the morning, but it could be hard to get the word out.
  • Silver Rose Program – We’ll be hosting the Silver Rose on the morning of Friday, September 1st. Our program will be after the 7:30am Mass and we are welcome to make the event our own. The basic program consists of Opening Procession, Prayers, 5-Decade Rosary (The Glorious Mysteries), Scripture Readings and Litany to Our Blessed Virgin Mary.  The Silver Rose will have to be leaving St. Joe’s by 10:30am.

New Business: No new business.
