Approval of the Minutes of the Previous Meeting:Moving forward minutes will be dispersed via email for members to print out and bring to meetings. In lieu of having 9/20’s General Meeting Minutes there was a Motion by John Glennon and Seconded by Michael Lamlech to approve the 10/4 Officer Meeting Minutes that were passed out. Per open discussion it was recommended by Randall Norman to distinguish between General and Officer Meetings in the document Header; moving forward that suggestion will be adopted. A call was made to approve the minutes; all in favor with no objections; the minutes were approved.
Chaplain’s Message: Fr. Michael Magiera: Father has plans in mind for the brotherhood involving the Rectory, however there are no details to share at this moment. He reiterates, yes, we are a social organization but also a Brotherhood of Knights for Christ and to keep remembering that all the time. Father reminds us that he’s available to meet one-on-one and to simply reach out to him. Lastly, he notified us that the parish has an American Flag which we can have and permanently display in the St. Michael Room; it just needs to be located.
Grand Knight’s Report: Brother Jim reminds us to begin with faith and to allow God’s grace to work through us. It’s been exciting getting the council off the ground and thanks FatherMagiera, District Deputy Steve, New Council Developer Michael for their support. As well as the brotherhood, it’s been an honor to get to know each of us better.
Since our last meeting the following positions have been filled; Erik Jurgens-Lecturer, Paul Ward-Program Director, Randall Norman-Pro Life Chairman and Michael Lamlech-Membership Chairman.
We are still looking to fill the following Program Directors: Faith, Family and Community. Also, a 4th Degree Member to appoint to the Assembly.
Beginning Thursday October 27th after the 5pm Mass and Benediction the Men’s Book Club will be reading and discussing Bearing False Witness: Debunking Centuries of Anti-CatholicHistory by Rodney Stark (weekly on Thursdays).
Friday, October 28th is the next meeting of the Joliet Chapter of the Knights of Columbus at St. Joseph’s Park 733 Theodore St.There will be a meal at 6pm (free will donation) with the meeting to follow at 7pm. It’s important that as many brother Knights be there because they are going to introduce our council as we are brand new. Regarding the meal, it was brought up that many, if not all council members of the Parish observe Friday abstinence from meat and that point will be made to the Chapter by Worthy District Deputy Steve.
Sunday, November 27th the Knights of Columbus/Blackhawks Game Event (Thanksgiving Weekend). If anyone is interesting being Point-Man let Jim know. If the council gets 10 people to sign up as a group, the processing fee for the Event is waived. $65 includes a meal, several events and the Game.
It was confirmed that anyone can attend the Officers Planning Meetings, however only Officers are allowed to vote but everyone is more than welcome to attend.
Treasurer Report: Br. Charles statesno money has been received, no money spent, and our balance is zero. Setting up a checking account is being researched, there is paperwork to complete for Supreme as well as applying for an EIN (tax exemption) for our council.
Membership Report: Br. Michael’s goal is to make the St. Michael Room run out of space to accommodate its members. Still very interested in getting announcements of our activity and presence into the Bulletin. Father Magiera notifies us that whenever we want something to go into the Bulletin have it to him by Tuesday evenings or Wednesday mornings at the latest. The weeks Bulletin is printed and copied on Wednesday afternoons.
In terms of what to put into the Bulletin is awareness building for now, and if anyone is interested in learning more, they can contact Br. Michael.
Financial Secretary’s Report/Life Director: Randall reports he’s still awaiting more information regarding membership cards and dues (including the membership grace period, until the end of calendar year or June of 2023). He makes the point that we’ll need a few hundred dollars sooner rather than later, just for necessities. He hopes to have more information by the November meeting.
The Dobs v Jackson’s Women’s Health decision was favorable; however, one set back is that it didn’t decide on the personhood of a fetus, but it was still a move in the right direction.
The council had its first event, the Rosay Rally at the Planned Parenthood in Orland Park with 25 participates including 7 members of the council.
The Faith in Action Program recommends 4 areas where the Life Programs can focus on: the March for Life, Special Olympics, Pregnancy Center Support and Ultrasound Programs. We can probably take steps in the first three, but the Ultrasound Program is costly especially for a new council.
The March for Life is coming up in January of 2023 and both Chicago (TBD) and DC (1/20/23) hold events.
In years past the Joliet Diocese’s Respect for Life department would sponsor busses for individuals to attend in DC but at this time there wasn’t much if any information on their website. Randall hopes to have more information on this next time.
40 Days for Life is going on now at several locations: two places in DuPage County Downers Grove and in Aurora, as well as locally in Flossmoor and Chicago. If anyone is interested in participating, there is plenty of information online.
District Deputy’s Report: Br. Steve updated us on the following:
Sunday, November 6th– Memorial Mass for deceased Members at the 10:30am Mass at St. Joseph’s downtown.
Monday, November 7th – 4th Degree Assembly Meeting at St. Joseph’s Ferdinand Hall in Downtown Joliet at 7pm with a meal preceding at 6pm.

Br. Steve reminds us of the Chapter Meeting on Friday, October 28th and congratulates us on our first event in Orland Park.
He updated us on the Vocation Raffle that is currently going on. The official drawing is taking place on December 4th and the big prize is $10,000.
Tuesday, November 4th is Election Day and our duty to vote, preferably on the actual day.
The Mother Theresa Movie is coming back and will be in Joliet and New Lennox on November 2nd and 3rd.
Unfinished Business:Fill remaining positions and get accounts set up.
New Business:Bishops First Dinner is coming up in December in Carol Stream at Corpus Christie Parish, anyone can attend and donate as they see fit.
