Chaplain’s Message: Fr. Michael Magiera

Fr. Michael Magiera proposed we add the suffix “born and unborn” at the end of our pledge of allegiance to which there were no objection. He is glad to see we are a viral and youthful council. His vision for our council is primarily a service council to the parish (he already has several things to occupy ourselves with) then other projects of the KoC.  The spiritual component will be strong as real catholic men.

District Deputy’s Report: Br.Steve Joutras

Joliet Assembly as approved a $100.00 check to the council for startup funds, and it’s possible the Joliet Chapter will be doing the same. Supreme does as well, however it is unknown at this time how much that may be, most like $200.00.

These funds can be used for the order of Council jewels.

Challenge has been offered to bring one other new member.

Things that are taking place in the State, the Knights have just concluded an Intellectual Disabilities Drive.

Also in the State, starting Friday, September 23rd in the Joliet Diocese Knights are participating in “Knights on Bridges.”  Pro-Life banners will be displayed on bridges, overpasses and at traffic intersections through October 2nd.   (2 banners at $150.00)

Coming up as well, October 3rd and 4th @ 7pm the Mother Theresa film sponsored by the Knights of Columbus will be at the New Lennox AMC Theater and at other locations as well.  All Catholics are encouraged to attend.

The Silver Rose Pro-Life Program recently concluded. The Silver Rose makes a 5-route journey from Canada through the United States to Mexico City.

General Agent: Br. Louis White

Br. Lewis addressed the group expressing that the expectations for our first year is to figure out our roles.  He recommends picking a few programs out of the many just to get solidified in the parish. Three areas where most councils struggle are 1. District Deputy (Steve) 2. Benefit Agent (Erik) and 3. Priest (Father Magiera), fortunately we have these bases solidly covered.  With these three we have support to make mistakes early, move through them and grow the council.   Lewis encourages us to take this on as a commitment to get everything started off to the right start.  We should take advantage of the resources we have available to help get us started, find out what Father Magiera wants to happen and work with him to implement those things.

New Council Development: Br. Michael Enos

Br. Michael shared his excitement for our first business meeting and notified us that we are the first new council in the State of Illinois for the fraternal year 2022.  He’s proud of how many of us stepped out of our comfort zones to accept roles as officers and we can always go to him if we have questions regarding the roles and responsibilities of the offices until his role end June of 2023.

New Business:

Every First Tuesday of the Month (Officers Meeting @ 6pm)

Every Third Tuesday of the Month (Business Meeting @ 7pm)

Anyone can attend Officer planning meetings, it’s where we hammer out details of what we are going to do at the next couple of meetings, please note, they could be lengthy.  However, with Business meetings we stick to the agenda, follow the script and be done in an hour.

It was recommended that the Lecturer, whoever that may be, serve as the point of contact for announcements regarding council activities for the pulpit, bulletin, and the parish website.  Submissions will be made to Jim in the office.

5 Directorships still needed (appointed by the Grand Knight or volunteer)

Program Director

Family Director

Community Director

Membership Director

Retention Chairman

Safe Environment Training needed for Program, Family and Community Director, as well as the Grand Knight within 30 days of appointment.

Father reiterates the call to bring in more members, one per existing member so we avoid becoming top heavy as a council.

Regarding bringing members in, we should share why we became a Knight and the activities offered.  There are many resources on the Knights website.

Membership is done online and voted upon by the members.
